We hope you have had a fantastic Summer Holidays and have enjoyed a nice break with your children! We would like to send a warm welcome to all of the new families at Preschool!  Everybody has started to settle in very well so far and we are spending time getting to know everybody.  The children that were with us last term have all come back with enthusiasm and are ready to pick up where they left off!

Team News

You will have noticed that Michelle has not been at Preschool this term.  At the end of the Summer term she was offered a full time position working with adults and decided to have a career change.  We very much miss Michelle and wish her all the very best of luck in all that she does in the future!  Ria will now be taking on her role of SENDCO so if you have any concerns regarding your child’s development do speak to your keyworker in the first instance and Ria will then arrange a meeting with you.

You may have notice Ria’s waistline expanding, she did not eat too much chocolate over the summer and does have a baby on board!  We would just like to reassure you that we will be advertising for a maternity post and recruiting in good time to make sure Ria is able to give a good handover to whomever takes her role.  She plans to take her leave at the end of January however she hopes to maintain an active role within Preschool and will be popping in to help as much as she is able to!  If you know anybody that is looking for a temporary management role in Early Years please do let Ria know so she can give all of the details.

We have been recruiting for a new Administrator as Berice is leaving us.  Berice has been working behind the scenes at Preschool on all things financial for over 20 years and we are going to miss her greatly.  We would like to start a collection to buy her a special leaving gift, If you would like to contribute please give any donations to Ria in an envelope marked Donation for Berice!  We have had a successful recruitment and will give more details about the new Administrator when we have finalised all of our safe recruitment checks.

I have written a separate letter explaining about our new method of ‘Planning in the Moment’. This method places more emphasis on getting to know the children and learning about their interests in the moment therefore we will no longer be focussing on topics each week.

If your child is particularly interested in finding out about a topic at home please do use Tapestry to let us know as we will bring activities to extend this into the setting!  Please use our comments box to give any feedback about planning in the moment!

Individual photos

We have the photographer booked in on Tuesday October 15th.  She will be setting up to start shooting portrait photographs for children attending Preschool in the afternoon and we will be offering sessions to all children and families throughout the afternoon and into the evening.

If you would like to sign up for a slot or you know anybody that would like to come in for a free family photo shoot please do sign up at Preschool!

Updated Fee’s

Last term we introduced the consumables charge, this has worked very well for us at it has made the difference between being financially sustainable and not!  We will now be invoicing half termly for both funded and non funded children.  New fee rates are now chargeable after your funded sessions have been used.  Two year olds will be charged £5.00 per hour, 3-4 year olds will be charged £4.50 per hour.

After some feedback from parents we are planning to change the colour of our uniforms from January. We have some stock in red and white on order for those of you that have already placed your orders and we are not going to ask you all to buy new uniform straight away.  From January we will only be stocking the new colours however we are happy for you to continue using the red uniform until your child grows out of it!

Please remember to send your child with named clothes that are appropriate for the weather and plenty of changes just in case they need them!  Children will have opportunities to play outside in all weather and will need warm and waterproof clothes available every day.  We also ask you to provide a pair of wellies for wet weather play!

Stay and Play

We will be holding stay and play sessions throughout the week beginning on Monday 14th October.  This is an opportunity for parents to stay for the first hour of any session so that you are able to have a chat with your key worker or Ria about your child’s progress and any worries or concerns that you have.  Please be aware that for children that are settling in this can be a little confusing and we do recommend waiting until your child is fully settled before you join a stay and play session.

Committee News

We have several of our committee members stepping down at the Annual General Meeting in November. If you would like to become a member of the committee and think that you have skills that you could offer please do come and speak to Ria.

It is extremely important to keep the numbers in our committee healthy as we depend on having a committee to keep our preschool open.  The committee holds overall responsibility for the settings smooth running and alongside the manager are able to make changes to the way that the preschool operates.

Fundraising Committee

This term the fundraising committee are working towards raising funds for a Speech and Language screening and intervention tool called Wellcomm.

This will benefit all children at preschool and will help to reduce the gap that there currently is nationally with children’s speech and language development.

The tool is a fun and interactive way to assess children’s speech and language and it has lots of exciting activities to help children develop in a fun way.

We will also be using the money raised last term to make improvements to our outside provision, making sure that children have the same opportunities to access resources as they do inside.

If you are keen to help but being on the full committee is not for you then please do volunteer on our fundraising committee.  We meet separately to the main committee meetings for the sole purpose of organising and planning the fundraising events that we hold.

The Preschool depends heavily on fundraising to enable us to buy new toys and resources and to maintain our outstanding provision.  Even if you cannot commit to coming to the meetings but are able to help out at the events please come and speak to Ria to volunteer your skills!

Please be aware that there may be a snap general election in the near future.  If there is an election the hall will be needed for this and we will be forced to close on that day.  We will keep you informed of any closures as and when they are confirmed.
