This will be the last newsletter that I (Ria) write before I begin my maternity leave on the 31st January. You will have already seen that Janice has started her role as maternity cover manager and we are working together over the next few weeks to make sure she is prepared to take the full responsibility of the role until I plan to return next year.
We now have a new accounts administrator called Amy, she will be working at the Preschool on Thursday mornings and will be able to help with any funding or invoice queries that you have. Janice will also be well prepared to help you with these issues so please do not hesitate to talk to either at any time.
We are recruiting for an additional member of staff from February for 8 hours a week plus some flexible hours to cover staff training and sickness so if anybody is interested in that role or knows somebody that is please do come and speak to myself or Janice.
Home learning and Wow Moments
This week we are starting to send home learning folders home with the children. The younger children will have the chance to borrow a book to share with a grown up at home and the older children will also bring an activity sheet home each week. Please find the time to share the book and complete at least one of the activities each week to extend your child’s learning in the home environment.
It would be fantastic if you are able to upload photographs of your home learning activities onto Tapestry and use the folder provided to send back any pictures that you create so that we can have a look with the children back at Preschool. Please return the folder each week so that we can give you a new home learning book and sheet and we will spend time with each child talking about which activity they completed.
Please remember to use your child’s name card to tell us about something special that has happened at home. It could be the first time your child has achieved something or a special time that you have spent together as a family. The children love standing up in a small group to share these experiences and are often very proud of themselves for their achievements!
Severe Weather and Suitable Clothing
We hope we don’t have any severe weather this year however we do have to make preparations in the event that we do. We will of course always endeavour to remain open however the safety of children and staff has to be paramount and in severe circumstances we may not be able to open.
In the event of any severe weather Tapestry will be used to keep you updated on any closures so please do check in before you try to travel.
On that note please do make sure that your children have suitable clothing and shoes for the weather. We do access the outside area in all weather and children do need to be wrapped up warm with suitable warm footwear. Children MUST have a change of footwear for outdoor use preferably wellies that are waterproof and you don’t mind getting very muddy! Please help us to keep the hall clean and tidy by leaving muddy shoes and wellies outside the hall.
A huge thank you to everybody that contributed to our fundraising events last term. We had lots of orders for tote bags and the children’s Christmas cards that they designed were amazing – well done!
We also raised over £70 by doing our book tombola, lucky dip and pound in the pudding. These much needed funds have all be put towards our Speech and language assessment toolkit that we will be using to benefit all of the children.
Fundraising events that are planned for this term will be our sponsored spring walk and our annual Easter egg hunt!
If you are keen to help but being on the full committee is not for you then please do volunteer on our fundraising committee. We meet separately to the main committee meetings for the sole purpose of organising and planning the fundraising events that we hold.
The Preschool depends heavily on fundraising to enable us to buy new toys and resources and to maintain our outstanding provision. Even if you cannot commit to coming to the meetings but are able to help out at the events please come and speak to Ria to volunteer your skills. This term our committee will be organising our annual Easter egg hunt.
